Free your Hi-Fi stereo system from unwanted noise and interference. Get closer to the music you love and take your music experience to the next level. With the new fully balanced Pro-Ject PHONO BOX DS3 B preamplifier, you have everything you need to do this.
The PHONO BOX DS3 B is a very flexible phono preamplifier suitable for both MM and MC phono cartridge systems. The letter B in the name stands for "Balanced", i.e. SYMMETRIC. This is a phono preamplifier with a fully symmetrical design. When connected to a turntable using a 5-PIN mini XLR cable or a balanced cable with XLR connectors, you get a truly fully symmetrical signal path and maximum sound from your turntable.
A TRULY SYMMETRIC PREAMPLIFIER
In a balanced path, both signal wires effectively transmit the same musical information with one phase reversal. When the source signal enters the balanced input, one phase of the signal is rotated by 180°, retaining only the useful signal, since the interfering signals are in antiphase with each other and have the same level before being added, so they cancel out together. When both waves are added in the phono preamplifier, the final musical signal will be at twice the level and the noise will be removed. The fully balanced PHONO BOX DS3 B is able to extract the final musical information from the +/- signals and subtract, removing any noise that could potentially be added to the transmission. Since there are two separate signal chains, two separate amplifier sections are also necessary.
FULLY DISCRETE CIRCUITS
The Phono Box DS3 B uses fully discrete audio circuits. A discrete circuit consists of electronic components that are disparate, separate devices, also called discrete components. Countless hours of listening tests have shown that even the best op amps are not perfectly neutral, natural, dynamic or lively. Standard phono preamps with integrated circuits contain several tens or hundreds of components, while discrete designs use hundreds or thousands of components.
PASSIVE EQ
The balanced signals are re-summing and processed by a fully passive and discrete RIAA equalization stage. Since the amplification stage is fully symmetrical and the signal-to-noise ratio is optimized, the EQ section receives the best source to work with. The fully separated passive equalization allows for better impedance matching and less deviation from the ideal RIAA curve. On the balanced XLR outputs, the discrete stage generates a fully balanced signal. The RCA outputs have their own fully discrete output stage for each channel, controlled directly by the RIAA EQ.
PERFECT WITH EVERY TRANSMISSION
With the ability to adjust the input impedance, capacity and gain, this phono preamplifier is user-friendly and versatile, making it the leader in its price category. Simplicity is one of its main advantages. You can even connect two turntables (or a turntable with two arms) and make all the settings for each cartridge separately directly on the front panel. The settings are stored separately for each input. In addition, thanks to the symmetrical design that allows even high gain levels, the settings can have a large range from 40 dB to 65 dB. You can thus perfectly adapt the PHONO BOX DS3 B to each cartridge and optimally integrate it into the rest of your Hifi system, while the volume levels will exactly match other sources such as CD players or streaming devices. The load impedance can be continuously adjusted using the rotary potentiometer even during playback. You can immediately evaluate the impact of the current setting on the sound. Finding the right load impedance for your cartridge is very fast.
PRACTICAL ELEGANT DESIGN
The PHONO BOX DS3 B has a very solid and vibration-resistant chassis made of aluminum panels. The design is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also provides excellent protection against unwanted electromagnetic interference and vibrations.
The component is available in black or silver. As a special accessory, you can purchase a separate linear power supply Power Box DS2 Sources or magnetic wooden sides with walnut, eucalyptus or rosenut veneer.
TRUE BALANCED READY
To use a truly balanced connection, your turntable must have an MC (Moving Coil) cartridge installed. True Balanced Ready turntables are prepared for balanced signals, but are supplied with an MM (Moving Magnet) cartridge as standard.
Virtually all Pro-Ject turntables have balanced connections. However, the industry standard is to use the common unbalanced RCA connection, as it is cheaper and more widely available than a truly balanced connection. To take full advantage of the benefits of balanced connections, choose a Tre Balanced Ready turntable - these turntables are marked with the letter B (Balanced) in the name, e.g. X1 B, X2 B or DEBUT PRO B.
With a balanced connection, you can get details from your precious recordings that were previously unheard.
